Maryland men's basketball, Georgia Tech to meet in exhibition game

Maryland men’s basketball has already announced details for one preseason game, but another has now surfaced with head coach Buzz Williams and his squad set to take on a former ACC foe.

Maryland and Georgia Tech will tipoff on Oct. 11 for an expected 5 PM tipoff at UMBC in an exhibition matchup, the second of two scheduled games that day with the game set to begin after LIU faces UMBC.

It marks the second exhibition game for Maryland with West Virginia scheduled to head to College Park the following Sunday, Oct. 18, with a chance for the new-look roster to gauge how it stacks up. The Yellow Jackets are set to kick off 2026-27 with a new head coach with Scott Cross taking over after notching five consecutive 20-win seasons prior to the move. Cross takes over with a nearly brand new roster and handful of productive pieces along the roster with San Jose St. transfer guard Colby Garland and returning guard Kam Craft, who serves as the highest-scoring returning player after averaging 7.3 points with the Yellow Jackets last season, while top-100 recruit Kayden Allen is one of four high school commits.

Though unofficial, it also marks the first meeting between the two former conference rivals since Maryland secured a 16 point win back on Jan. 4, 2014 while Maryland holds a 40-36 lead in the all-time series.

Maryland previously announced its finalized non-conference schedule for teh regular season witha road game against Georgetown, home game vs. Virginia and a neutral site games against Tennessse, South Carolina and at least a second matchup in the Players Era 16 among other matchups.
