Maryland men's basketball announces two promos games honoring Gary Williams, '02 national championship team
Maryland men's basketball is partnering with Northrop Realty to honor the 25th anniversary of the 2002 national championship team during the upcoming 2026-27 regular season. Yet Maryland has officially announced a pair of promos for Big Ten play.
Athletic director Jim Smith already pointed to the Feb. 13 home game against Indiana as the day that head coach Gary Williams and the national championship team will be honored. The first 12,000 fans set to receive commemorative national championship anniversary hats inspired by those presented to the 2002 team.
Yet that will be one of two fun themes with the Jan. 16 home game against the Illinois another promo night with the first 10,000 fans set to receive a Gary Williams bobblehead. Maryland also announced that every season ticket account will also be guaranteed a bobblehead, while the game also comes during the same weekend as the program's annual alumni weekend.
Single game tickets and mini-packs are expected to be available to Terrapin Club donors on Oct. 2 before they become available to the general public on Oct. 7.
Maryland will unofficially kick off the season against Georgia Tech on Sunday, Oct. 11 with tipoff set for 4:30 PM at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore. That marks the first of two exhibitions set with a home game against West Virginia set for Oct. 18, while the regular season opener is set for Nov. 2 against Bucknell inside Xfinity Center, which will included selected discounted concession items and throwback elements during the game, per release.
Local media day is expected in College Park at the end of the month, while head coach Buzz Williams is joined by Robert Jennings II and DJ Wagner at Big Ten Media Day next week.
