Days after landing Jaziah Harper, Maryland men’s basketball has added its fourth commitment in the 2025 class after three-star forward Aleks Alston has gone public with his decision.
Alston, a 6-foot-8 forward out of Kenwood Academy (IL), committed to Maryland after visiting back on May 12 while NC State and UNLV were among the teams to show interest. He joins Darius Adams, Guillermo Del Pino and Jaziah Harper in Maryland’s 2025 class.
“We’re near Chicago so the chance to see him at Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin and get on a plane to go watch him in College Park – we like that,” a source close to him previously told IBG.
As a senior at Kenwood, Alston averaged 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks while shooting over 40% from three, ending the season named a first-team All-City selection. He also notched 15 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks in the two-point win to lead his team to a city title and Red Shield Championship.
Harper drew the nickname ‘Serbian Sniper’ thanks to the half-Serbian’s outside shooting touch.
“The nickname came up when I was a freshman, hitting shots at a high clip. Basketball is everything down there, having that support system. I wasn’t born there, but because I’m 50-50, they still support and show love; it’s crazy. I can’t way to get over there and really see what it is. I want to get in a gym there,” Alston said last May.
Aleks Alston is rated a three-star and 89 overall by On3, checking in as the top prospect in Illinois and 131st-best nationally. He was named a standout at the Pangos All-American camp last summer, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw:
Aleks Alston has excellent positional size with long arms. He is a scorer and at 6-foot-7, would prefer to face the basket and take jump shots. The lefty has a consistent release and smooth shooting touch. He also played aggressively in the passing lanes and finished in transition. He had a game of 22 and a game of 15 points showcasing his scoring prowess. Now he needs to continue to diversify his offensive game and continue to develop the handle. There is an upside here and he had a solidly productive camp.
With Alston’s pledge in the fold, Maryland men’s basketball publicly has one spot left to fill as Alston joins Harper, Adams, Del Pino, Pharrel Payne, Solomon Washington, Collin Metcalf, David Coit, Myles Rice, Andre Mills,Isaiah Watts, Elijah Saunders, Rakease Passmore and George Turkson.
