Maryland lands first portal pickup from ODU RB

Maryland football has its first portal commitment of the 2026 offseason in the fold with Old Dominion running back Trequan Jones officially in the fold.

Jones, a 5-foot-9, 183-pound running back, committed to Maryland over Cincinnatti and Michigan State after visiting on Saturday. He joins the program with one year of eligibility and joins a room returning DeJuan Williams, Iverson Howard and Bud Coombs in 2026.

Jones also fills a role as a speedster in a room looking to build on its run game in 2026, filling a role in the room with Nolan Ray electing to transfer after three seasons in the program.

Jones finished the 2025 season with eight runs over 20 yards, giving the Terps a clear upgrade after finishing with just 11 runs over 20 yards as a team in 2025.

Jones began his college career at Georgia Military where he rushed for 1,171 yards and 14 touchdowns on 142 carries before transferring to Old Dominion in 2025. In five starts and 13 appearances, Jones totaled 792 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 105 carries while adding 20 rushing yards on six catches.

Jones, a Florida native, will now close out his college career in College Park to give the offense another weapon as head coach Mike Locksley looks to bolster the weapons around second-year quarterback Malik Washington.
