Maryland has landed arguably its biggest commitment of the 2024 class as Evans (FL) four-star safety Brandon Jacob has gone public with his decision, committing to Maryland over UCF, Texas A&M and Miami (FL). Jacob, a 6-foot-1.5, 171-pound safety, officially visited UCF and Texas A&M before making his way to Maryland the weekend of June 16. Miami (FL) was also in the mix for the four-star safety, but after his official visit to Maryland, a source told IBG that his fourth and final official visit to Miami (FL) for the weekend of June 23 had been canceled. In-state UCF proved to be the biggest challenger down the stretch, but the depth to the relationship between Jacob and Maryland proved too much to overcome. Maryland was the first offer for Jacob, a fitting start considering Jacob attends the school that James Thomas once attended. The Florida native has made himself a frequent visitor in College Park through his recruitment, visiting last year for the Rutgers game before returning for an unofficial visit during spring practices, then a brief visit while in town for a 7-on-7 tournament before returning for the spring game. I feel like that’s perfect because Maryland is a high choice for me because of the time I been there,” Jacob told IBG. Jacob becomes the first safety pledge and the second Florida native in Maryland's 2024 class, joining Tru Prep Academy three-star cornerback Larry Tarver Jr. The four-star safety dazzled for Evans during his junior season at wide receiver and safety, totaling 69 tackles, ten pass breakups, five interceptions and a pair of fumbles and defensive touchdowns. Jacob was also invited to the US Army Bowl last week. Jacob is rated a four-star prospect and a 92 overall by On3.
