Maryland lands athletic forward, Baltimore native Marcus Jackson

Head coach Kevin Willard and Maryland basketball have landed the first commitment of the 2025 cycle as three-star forward Marcus Jackson has announced his commitment.

Jackson, a 6-foot-7 forward originally out of Baltimore, is fresh off his official visit to Maryland and committed over Auburn and Iowa among others.

Assistant Greg Manning Jr. led the way for the Team Thrill product, while the chance to reunite with former Team Thrill teammate Derik Queen resonated with the athletic forward through the process. “He stays on my recruitment for Maryland,” Jackson told IBG. “Me and coach Manning, I’ve never had a complaint or anything bad to say about him. He does a really good job keeping up with me and he’s a really good guy.”

Manning Jr. spearheaded the Terps' efforts ever since Jackson transferred to John Marshall (VA), giving the local forward a chance to familiarize himself with his fit in the program. Jackson has since transferred to Compass Prep (AZ) for his senior season, but the idea of playing close to home won out.

Jackson was initially planning to announce his commitment following his official visits but prior to his senior year, but pulled the trigger on his first visit as the Terps get juice on the recruiting trail once again. He plans to major in engineering in college.

“Their academic program. I want to major in engineering, so I want to look at that a lot more, see the school and learn more about the program,” he added heading into his official visit.

Marcus Jackson is rated a three-star prospect and 88 overall by On3, checking in as the nation’s 44th-best power forward.
