Warwick (VA) four-star athlete Messiah Delhomme is no stranger to College Park, having made his way to campus for spring practices in the past, but last Saturday marked the first game that the 6-foot-1, 200-pound athlete has made it to in College Park.
“I really did enjoy it. Unfortunately it was a tough loss but they did play hard,” Delhomme told IBG. “That was my first game visit to Maryland but I’ve been up there before. My dad lives close by Maryland so he’s taken me before to see a little bit of the campus.”
Delhomme arrived on campus shortly after kickoff and stayed for the entirety of the game before connecting with running backs coach Latrell Scott and coordinator of player personnel Marcus Thomas, the two coaches staying most consistent with him thus far.
“Coach Scott has been one of the coaches. Marcus Thomas, I talk to him a lot too. In my opinion, I hear from them about the same but I hear from them both often. I would say my relationship with them is pretty good. I talk with them not on a daily basis, but close to it.”
Delhomme is listed as an athlete and is a two-way starter for Warwick, but he could land on the defensive side of the ball.
“I know when I talked to coach Thomas, he mainly sees me as a safety. I really want to play both sides but when it comes down to it, I’ll play defense. But my main goal is to play both sides.”
Maryland has made Virginia a continued focus with Latrell Scott now spearheading efforts throughout the 757, and it’s paid off with Delhomme as the Terps sit in the top group.
“It’s definitely up there. They’re in my top five,” Delhomme added. Michigan, Florida State and Alabama are among the top contenders for the top-300 prospect with more visits set for this fall.
“I’ve been up to Michigan. I plan to take a trip to ‘Bama and Florida State soon. I believe I’m going to either go to a ‘Bama game possibly at the end of this month, it’s not locked in yet. Florida State will be November 18. I might also do the 21st of this month, but I’m not sure yet.”
Delhomme is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, sitting as the 286th-best prospect in the country and seventh-best in Virginia.
