Maryland in top group for '25 IOL Kahlil Stewart after third visit

St. Joe’s (PA) will be back in Maryland this weekend with their matchup against Archbishop Spalding (MD) highlighting the Friday night high school slate, but a pair of key starters were able to make their way to College Park last weekend to take in their first game in College Park. Four-star LB Cam Smith was originally slated to visit Maryland for the Indiana game, but he followed through with a trip to Maryland this past weekend. The same can be said for teammate and three-star IOL Kahlil Stewart, who wrapped up his third visit to College Park. “I didn’t really get a chance to talk to anybody but I did love the facilities. Walking down the tunnel to the game, that was nice. I didn’t get a chance to talk to any of the coaches because by the time the game was over, we had already left.” Stewart, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound lineman, has been able to build a strong rapport with offensive line coach Brian Braswell but it’s offensive analyst Preston Brown who has ignited the spark for the Terps and maintained healthy communication. “I talk to the line coach multiple times. It’s been going really well. Coach Preston Brown, he’s the one that texts my phone the most.” Stewart transferred from Roman Catholic this offseason, but it was one of his former coaches who helped connect Stewart with Preston Brown beginning on his first visit. “The school that I transferred from, one of my coaches knew him. That’s when I went up there the first time and I talked to him. I just got to know him and build a good relationship with him since that day.” After taking in a campus tour, spring practice and now a game, Maryland sits in Stewart’s top group despite watching a loss. “I definitely have high interest. What I love about them is, some of these schools out here you have to build a relationship with them and I feel like I’ve really built that with Maryland already.” Stewart, who has lost 35 pounds since transferring to St. Joe’s Prep, has Virginia Tech and Penn State in his top group alongside Maryland. Stewart is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by On3, sitting as the 18th-best prospect in Pennsylvania.
