Maryland men’s lacrosse held onto its number one ranking on Monday morning for the ninth consecutive week.

The news came just 13 hours after Maryland defeated fourth-ranked Rutgers 17-9 in a game that was wrapped up seemingly in minutes. The Terps jumped out to a 5-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Logan Wisnauskas just 22 seconds apart, setting the stage for the Terps to build a 10-4 lead midway through the second quarter. It’d be the closest that Rutgers would get all night despite Rutgers finding the back of the net four minutes into the second half.

Ten different Terps scored in the win as Keegan Khan led the way with four goals and two assists, Wisnauskas finished with three goals and an assist while both Eric Malever and Owen Murphy tallied a pair of goals. The moment of the game would come at the eight-minute mark of the third quarter after Wisnauskas set Eric Malever up for the Terps’ 12th goal of the game, helping Wisnauskas surpass Jared Bernhardt’s previous program-record of 290 points. “It’s awesome,” Wisnauskas said after the game with Bernhardt and the 2017 national champion team in the house. “[The program’s] really awesome to be a part of.” Wisnauskas has now collected 33 hat tricks in 67 games as a Terp, while the combo of he and Khan have now given Maryland a hat trick in 49 consecutive games.

For the NCAA-best 19th straight season, Sunday’s win gave Maryland its tenth consecutive win to open the season and improves to 33-1 all-time against Rutgers. Maryland has also won 22 consecutive regular-season games dating back to February 18, 2020.

Maryland will host Ohio State on Saturday for a 4 PM start, broadcasted on the Big Ten Network.
