Maryland will welcome its next batch of official visitors to campus on Thursday with more regional targets making their way to College Park, including DeMatha (MD) three-star LB Noah Chambers. We take a look at how his recruitment got here and where things stand heading into the weekend. Top suitors: Maryland, Virginia Tech Background: Chambers made a name for himself as an underclassman at Paint Branch, but after his family moved and there was a window for the emerging local talent to change schools, DeMatha pounced on the linebacker. Before even playing a snap for DeMatha, the Stag coaches knew they had an athletic, yet hard-hitting addition they could depend on in their newest linebacker. With Emmett Laws – now at VT – shining in the trenches, Chambers went on to become the playmaker at linebacker alongside 2025 three-star Jermaine Minnis, lining up as the Stags’ starting inside ‘backer before being named a second-team All-WCAC selection. Virginia Tech became the first school to offer shortly after Chambers’ junior year began before Boston College became the next Power Four school after the season – an offer that assistant Aazaar Abdul-Rahim extended while still with the Eagles. Pitt, Indiana, Temple and Syracuse are among the schools that have jumped into the mix since. Skinny: this upcoming weekend marks the start of an important stretch for the DeMatha star with his first of two official visits heading into his mid-summer commitment. Chambers will head to College Park first where tight ends coach Kevin Sumlin and co-DC Aazaar Abdul-Rahim have spearheaded efforts to position the Terps inside the top group heading into June. After cementing himself on Maryland’s radar through his junior season, Maryland pulled the trigger on a verbal offer once attention shifted to the 2025 class and it’s been full steam ahead ever since. Maryland has done well getting Chambers comfortable with the program and fit both on and off the field, while the late spring commitment from teammate and three-star running back Bud Coombs is another chip in the Terps’ corner. Maryland will look to knock this upcoming weekend’s official visit out of the park with its inside linebacker target before he heads to Blacksburg where Virginia Tech has made itself a prominent contender throughout. Led by former Maryland and current Hokie assistant Elijah Brooks, Virginia Tech has been able to build off month’s long relationships with their top target and they’ll get the last crack at Chambers, who has made himself as familiar with Virginia Tech as he is with Maryland. A local contact close to Chambers views it as a toss-up between the two regional schools heading into the weekend, while the three-star has narrowed focus on his final two through the spring. While other Power Four schools monitored Chambers through the eval period and keep tabs on him through the fall, Liberty had made a push for an official visit before the linebacker trimmed down his recruitment, while no decision is expected until after both official visits. What he said On Maryland: “It’s picked up the last couple of months but I’m building the relationship with them faster. Coach Sumlin got on me, coach Aazaar got on me. I’ve been talking to coach Locksley,” Chambers told IBG. “It’s hometown. They definitely welcome me, feel like it’s home so I’ll see where everything leads me on my official visit.” On VT: “They were like the first ones basically one me, coach Brooks. We have a very close relationship, that’s my guy. Going in there possibly playing the STAR, MIKE or WILL position, but I like that coach Brooks got on me really early.” On how he’ll separate his top schools: “What position they have for me come in and play the best. My main focus is coming in and playing so who would develop me the best as a player and a man. But I know when I’m at one, they’re going to try to get me to commit as soon as possible so we’ll see,” Chambers told IBG when asked how he’d separate both schools."
