Maryland Football Makes Top Ten for Local Linebacker

Maryland made the cut for a local linebacker over the weekend. St. Frances (MD) three-star linebacker Simeon Coleman released a top ten on Saturday with Charlotte, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Kansas, Louisville, Florida State, Maryland, Ole Miss, Pitt and Tennessee making the cut. Coleman’s most recent visit was to Tennessee last weekend where he and a handful of his defensive teammates made the trip to Knoxville, but the 6-foot, 210-pound linebacker became a frequent visitor in College Park this past season and most recently visited for the Terps’ season finale win over Rutgers. Coleman was also able to close out his junior season inside SECU Stadium against IMG Academy with head coach Mike Locksley and a handful of assistants on hand to watch. That’s my guy, he is a great linebacker coach,” Coleman added. That close-knit relationship began in the spring as Coleman made his way for three early visits for practice. “Lance is my guy, I really like Lance. I talk to him a lot, I like what he says. Good energy, good vibes. I like Locksley a lot, too. I talked to both of them when I was up there for the 7-on-7.” Coleman transferred into St. Frances this past summer as he became part of a Panther defense that allowed just 11.4 points per game. Maryland has also been active in St. Frances under head coach Mike Locksley after signing a pair of blue-chip prospects in Jaishawn Barham and Andre Roye to close the 2022 class. Despite not signing anyone last cycle from the school, Coleman is one of several targets out of the Baltimore powerhouse for the 2024 cycle with four-star quarterback Mike Van Buren, four-star running back Dejuan Williams, defensive lineman Darrion Smith and three-star linebacker Darius Jones all on the board. Coleman is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by On3. He also checks in as the 23rd-best prospect in Maryland and the 82nd-best linebacker in the country.
