Maryland football draws votes in AP, coaches poll ahead of bye week

For the first time since 2023, Maryland football reappeared in both the coaches and AP poll.

Maryland drew ten votes in the coaches poll and six in the AP Poll released on Sunday, one day after dominating Wisconsin, 27-10, in Madison to move to 4-0 (1-0).

Seven Big Ten teams were included inside the top 25 with Maryland the lone team in the conference to draw votes. The Big Ten fell just shy of a fourth top-ten team with Indiana rising eight spots to 11th overall in the AP Poll, but the latest poll confirms the late season tests for Maryland to prove itself.

Maryland will now face three ranked teams in November with the Hoosiers now the highest-ranked team on the schedule after blowing out Illinois, 63-10, on Saturday night. Indiana is set to head to College Park on Nov. 1 for homecoming weekend as Maryland looks to deal a similar result to a pair of former Terps like they did against Wisconsin. Michigan and Illinois, who checked in at 19th and 23rd in the AP Poll, will also take on Maryland with the Terps headed to Champaign on Nov. 15 and the Wolverines headed to Maryland on Nov. 22 for senior day.

Maryland, who enters week five as one of 30 undefeated FBS teams, already finds itself on the cusp of eclipsing the preseason projected win total at 4.5. But head coach Mike Locksley will now look to keep his young team focused despite the early season success as Maryland looks to get healthy and return CB Jamare Glasker to the starting lineup.

“64 new players. First time 64 guys went on the road together. Tremendous collaboration. Our staff, Annie [Peppard] and our operations staff did a great job of getting us here on time and going through our protocol to make it as routine as possible. The coaching staff did a tremendous job. All of our medical staff, a bunch of people. When you take your show on the road in the Big Ten for the first time with a lot of new people, they allowed us to have the comfort of knowing kind of where we are and what we're doing. So a really collaborative effort. Really proud of everyone for how they've started the year off.”

Maryland is set for the first of two bye weeks as they now prepare to face a Washington team looking to remain unbeaten ahead of hosting top-ranked Ohio State at home this upcoming weekend.
