A spokesperson for Maryland athletics told IBG on Thursday that a Maryland football player was “transported to the hospital during Wednesday’s practice.”
“It was done so out of precaution. The player has been released from the hospital and is back with the team,” a spokesperson added.
While Maryland declined to confirm the player due to the medical situation, redshirt freshman CB Lloyd Irvin suffered the injury as the Baltimore Sun reported a spokesperson for PG County Fire and EMS Department “confirmed that they were dispatched at 5:40 PM Wednesday to Jones-Hill House.” News initially broke on Wednesday night that a player was taken “via ambulance to a trauma center after a mid-air collision” during Wednesday’s practice.
Irvin was the first of two signees out of Flowers (MD) in the 2024 class, committing in the spring before teammate CB Braydon Lee flipped from South Carolina to Maryland to end the class. Irvin redshirted in 2024 before appearing in three of the first four games of the 2025 season, most recently in the week four win vs. Wisconsin.
Maryland is set to return to action this weekend to host Nebraska for a 3:30 PM kickoff on BTN.
