Maryland football adds transfer quarterback to 2026 roster

For the first time in three years, Maryland football will enter fall camp with no quarterback controversy given Malik Washington will kick off the first practice on Aug. 5 as the starting quarterback for the second consecutive season. The question this offseason been behind Malik Washington after needing to restock depth, but Maryland has added another to the 2026 roster.

Former Fordham quarterback Jack Capaldi has transferred to Maryland where he is set to close out his college career.

Capaldi becomes the latest offseason addition at the position after the program also inked Cardell Williams and walk-on Max Lawrence out of the transfer portal and Nathan Bernhard in the 2026 class. Maryland previously added Devin Kargman as a walk-on, but he departed the program after spring ball. Maryland also returns Jackson Hamilton, son of former coordinator Pep Hamilton, to round out the 2026 quarterback room.

Following a redshirt in 2022, Capaldi arrives in College Park after appearing in 13 games over the last three seasons at Fordham where the bulk of his production materialized when he stepped in as the starter during the 2024 season. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound quarterback threw for nearly 1,600 yards and eight touchdowns while completing just shy of 50% of his passes across nine games as a starter

Capaldi also spent his high school career at Malvern Prep (Pa.) where he was teammates with former Maryland and TCU offensive lineman Coltin Deery where the 6-foot-3 quarterback was named a team captain and Daily Local First Team All-Area selection.
