Maryland football adds portal quarterback to round out 2026 room

Maryland football has added another piece out of the transfer portal and restocked its quarterback depth in the 2026 season.

Kent State quarterback Devin Kargman is expected to transfer to Maryland where he joins the program with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Kargman, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound redshirt junior, played in seven games over the last two seasons where he threw for 506 yards and five touchdowns against three interceptions while completing 53.5% of his passes. Kargman also finished 29-of-70 and threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns against three interceptions as a true freshman in 2022. After opening as the starter in 2024, Kargman was sidelined for the final eight games after suffering a hip injury before being carted off the field.

Maryland has been eyeing the quarterback market with only two scholarship quarterbacks set to return as Kargman adds veteran flavor to the 2026 room ahead of spring ball.

He now joins a quarterback room that was depleted this offseason after both Khristian Martin and Justyn Martin, the only other quarterbacks to take snaps other than Malik Washington, elected to transfer following the 2025 season.

He also becomes the 11th offseason transfer for Maryland alongside wide receiver Na'eem Gladding and Chris Durr, running back Harry Dalton III, offensive lineman Tellek Lockette, defensive linemen Derrick LeBlanc, Lavon Johnson, Jayven and Armon Parker, tight end Preston Howard and cornerback Amari Jackson.
