The first surprise of the early signing period is in: former Virginia pledge and St. James (VA) three-star WR Josiah Teasley has inked with Maryland.
Teasley, a 6-foot-4 wideout, flips his commitment from Virginia to Maryland after officially visiting for the Michigan game. The long wideout also becomes a significant flip for Maryland given the need at the position, while he now joins his teammate at St. James (VA), three-star wide receiver Jayden Kitchens, in College Park. The visit also comes days after visiting Virginia for his final visit in his recruitment.
Maryland worked itself well outside of the mix ahead of the fall to secure a spot in the top group with Penn State and Vanderbilt also involved as assistant Derek Kief and Aazaar Abdul-Rahim led the way.
“I was just surprised how much they threw the ball. They weren’t really good on completing some of them but the play calling, being able to throw the ball like that, the scheme, I feel like it fits me especially and I’ll have a lot of chances to go out and make plays if you give me that many touches,” he said after his official visit.
What stuck out about Maryland despite being committed to Virginia?
“They definitely have. Big Ten football. I want to play Big Ten, be the main guy. ACC, I can be the main guy too but it’s still 50-50. I’m really loving what I can do in the Big Ten and staying home for Maryland.”
Teasley is expected to enroll in January.
