Maryland Extends Flurry of New '23 Basketball Offers

Tuesday at midnight marked the first time that college coaches can contact 2023 prospects as head coach Mark Turgeon and the Terps officially added several new names to their recruiting board.

A handful of those offers went out to in-state products, starting with DeMatha (MD) four-star shooting guard Jacoi Hutchinson. The 6-foot-2, 165-pound product was a standout in Tuesday’s blowout win over Potomac and helped set the pace early alongside Tyrell Ward and Rodney Rice. LSU, Bryant, Virginia Tech, and St. Joseph’s also extended offers. St. John’s (DC) three-star power forward Amani Hansberry also added an offer, just one day after visiting Pitt and trekking through Wake Forest and NC State. Uber-talented in-state guard Jahnathan Lamothe, a four-star combo guard out of St. Frances, picked up an offer from new assistant Bruce Shingler on the same day that Ohio State jumped into the mix. Lamonthe took an unofficial visit to Georgetown on Tuesday.

The biggest offer on Tuesday went out to Kenwood (IL) five-star small forward JJ Taylor, who added new offers from Duke, Florida, Gonzaga, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska and Tulane today. The nation’s eighth-best prospect already held offers from Arizona, Illinois, and Texas as he’s already entrenched himself among the most coveted prospects in the nation.

Lutheran-Parker (CO) five-star Baye Fall, the nation’s top center, also added an offer from assistant Danny Manning.

Maryland was among a long list of schools to also offer Brewster Academy four-star small forward Taylor Bol Bowen and four-star small forward Matas Buzelis.

Paul VI (VA) four-star shooting guard DeShawn Harris-Smith also added an offer after hearing from LSU, Penn State, VCU, George Mason, George Washington, ECU, Saint Joe’s, Xavier, Butler, La Salle, and Radford. Ridge View (SC) four-star power forward Gregory Jackson, the nation’s sixth-best power forward, also added an offer as North Carolina and Duke reached out. Gray Academy (SC) four-star power forward Brandon Gardner and Belleview (CO) center Assane Diop added offers.

Maryland ended the night by offering Roselle Catholic (NJ) top-ten prospect Simeon Wilcher, a five-star who heard from seemingly all the blue-bloods on Tuesday.

Maryland does not hold a commitment in the 2023 class.
