Maryland has a pair of offensive line commitments already with Deandre Duffus and Tamarus Walker in the fold. While both visited campus over the last two weekends, the need for an offensive tackle this cycle remains evident and that search led the staff to Daniel Ogundipe.
Ogundipe, a 6-foot-5.5, 300-pound lineman out of Iowa Central, is already familiar with Maryland from his time out of high school. The former Imhotep (Pa.) product heard from running backs coach Elijah Brooks back in the day, and that’s the same coach who is leading the charge once more for Maryland. Offensive line coach Brian Braswell is also building a relationship with Ogundipe with the Terps now in the mix.
“They recruited me out of high school but now they just offered me a couple of days ago,” he told Inside the Black and Gold. “They said physically, I can play at their school. They said I can be a good fit for them.”
While Ogundipe visited Maryland once as a high school prospect, he could be returning for an extended visit next month.
“I’ll probably take an official real soon, November 19.” That visit coincides with Maryland’s first home game in November when the Ohio State Buckeyes come to town. “I just want to see if it’s a fit for me, if they see me really playing. I’m pretty sure they’ll tell me upfront about depth chart and stuff like that.”
UCLA, Ole Miss and Cincinnati are three more pursuing the JuCo tackle but the Terps will get the first crack. “Maryland is the only school for sure to get an official visit.”
Ogundipe is eligible to enroll in January and has three years left to play three.
