One week after landing a cornerstone pledge in the 2025 cycle with a pair of 2026 commits in between, Maryland football now has another cornerstone piece in the 2025 class after Warwick (VA) four-star Messiah Delhomme went public with his decision.
Delhomme, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound safety, committed to Maryland with Alabama, Ohio State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Syracuse in his top group.
While Delhomme becomes the first safety pledge in Maryland’s class, he becomes the third pledge out of Virginia in Maryland’s class, joining LB CJ Smith and OL Jaylen Gilchrist as assistant Latrell Scott spearheads efforts to break into the state’s elite talent. Co-defensive coordinator Aazaar Abdul-Rahim and safeties coach Zac Spavital were heavily involved while coordinator of player personnel Marcus Thomas built a strong relationship with the four-star dating back to the fall.
The four-star took official visits to Virginia Tech, Virginia and Ohio State before wrapping up June with an official visit to Maryland the weekend of June 21 — the weekend that the staff hosted their top regional targets as they worked to put the pieces together on a stellar recruiting class. Delhomme also visited Maryland for the Illinois game last fall before returning for a spring practice back in late March where he got a closer look at how he fits into the Terps’ defense.
“They told me to watch number 12 [Dante Trader Jr.],” Delhomme told IBG after his spring visit. “It’s definitely a good scheme I fit into. I was mainly watching the safeties get at it then after that I was watching them against the running backs and receivers.”
Though he’ll head to college on the defensive side of the ball, Delhomme shined as a do-it-all athlete for Warwick after leading his team to an 11-2 finish in 2023 while posting over 2,100 all-purpose yards and 28 total touchdowns over the last two seasons. Delhomme is expected to miss the bulk of his senior season after suffering a broken leg in the spring.
Delhomme becomes the 22nd pledge in Maryland’s 2025 class as head coach Mike Locksley moves one step closer to inking his highest-rated class since his hire as the program’s head coach following the 2018 season.
Messiah Delhomme is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, checking in as the eighth-best prospect in the state and 244th-best prospect in the 2025 class.
