Maryland has its second transfer portal commitment along the offensive line this offseason after former Elon offensive tackle Carlos Moore Jr. went public with his decision.
"Being from there, definitely, and just being able to go out there and compete," Moore said about why Maryland won out.
Moore, a 6-foot-6, 305-pound lineman who played his high school ball at St. John's (DC), committed to Maryland over Auburn with Kansas State and Syracuse also involved, but Moore made his way to Maryland for a visit beginning May 8 into May 10 with offensive line coach Damian Wroblewski leading efforts.
“I feel like it’s a good chemistry. He used to work at Elon like six years ago so he recruited some of my older teammates and they all said they really liked him when he was here,” Moore said of Wroblewski. “They said they definitely see a spot for me on the offensive line, not sure about right or left side but they’ll have a spot for me once I get there or if I get there.”
After redshirting in 2022, Moore played in five games as a redshirt freshman before stepping into a starting role in 2024. Moore played in 11 games and started ten as a redshirt sophomore last fall, with six of those starts at right tackle, joining the Terps with flexibility to play either tackle spot. He becomes the second portal commitment at the position this offseason, joining former Central Connecticut OT Rahtrel Perry.
Moore joins the program with two years of eligibility remaining. He becomes the eighth transfer portal commitment during the spring window with DL Cam Rice (Ohio), DL Edwin Moore (Western Carolina), DL Joel Starlings (UNC), DL Sedrick Smith (Alabama A&M), K Sean O'Haire (Richmond), DB Gavin Edwards (Austin Peay), WR Jordan Scott (FSU) already signed.
