Maryland basketball favored vs. Indiana on Senior Day

Maryland (15-14, 7-11) vs. Indiana (15-13, 7-10)When & where: March. 3, 2024 | 2:00 PM | Xfinity Center TV: CBS--Kevin Harlan, Dan Bonner Radio: 105.7 FM (Baltimore) | 980 AM (DC) | SiriusXM channel 382 Betting odds: Maryland -9 | O/U: 136.5 (DraftKings) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4DTGb0oMjU It's Senior Day in College Park as head coach Kevin Willard is set to honor four integral vets on Sunday ahead of the annual Gold Rush game. Maryland will look to end year two 12-5 in the Xfinity Center and 28-6 in the first two seasons under Willard with Indiana in College Park for the return matchup. Jordan Geronimo is set to start in his 25th game in his lone season with the program, ironically set to take part in Senior Day against the team he originally suited up for after spending three years with the Hoosiers. Geronimo was leaned on to become an integral part of the frontcourt rotation and his late rebounds loomed large in Maryland's road win vs. Rutgers, averaging 4.1 per game in that category. Geronimo, averaging 5.6 points per game, sits second on the team in blocks (32). Geronimo does have an extra season of eligibility should he choose to return to college. Jahari Long also has an additional year should he choose, but he enters Sunday after his two-year career in Seton Hall under Willard continued in College Park where he grew into a dependable role in the rotation. In two starts this season, Long is averaging just over four points in 18.2 minutes per game and sits third on the team in three-point shooting (32.7%) behind Jahmir Young and Donta Scott. Donta Scott ends his five-year career in College Park as the final remaining piece from the prior coaching staff, capping off an impactful career as a Terp. That's naturally made him the most tenured player in program history as Scott holds the record for games played (158), games started (142) and minutes played (4,671). Scott became the 59th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points and enters the weekend still one of five Terps to post 1,500 points and 800 rebounds, joining Lonny Baxter, Tom McMillen, Keith Booth and Terrence Morris. Scott enters Sunday just 12 points shy of passing Melo Trimble for 14th on the all-time scoring list, along with 13 rebounds to pass McMillen for eighth all-time. Jahmir Young will take the court for the final time in College Park after anchoring the start of the Kevin Willard era. The former DeMatha guard ended a 20-year drought in College Park as Young became the face of the rebuild, guiding Maryland back to the NCAA Tournament in his first season. Year two hasn't gone to plan for the team, but Young has been sensational averaging a team-high 20.9 points per game--good for third in the Big Ten and 15th nationally. Young also enters Sunday leading the team in assists (4.2) -- along with second nationally in 'points created' against Quad One opponents. Sunday, though, will give Maryland not only a chance to get back to .500 in Quad Three games but also a chance to get back against the team that defeated the Terps to open conference play back in December. Indiana enters Sunday 99th in KenPom and 105th in the NET but managed to snap a four-game losing streak against Wisconsin on Tuesday in a four-point win in Bloomington. Still, the seat hasn't gotten any cooler for third-year head coach Mike Woodson. The Hoosiers' frontcourt has been the bright spot this season, though, as both Malik Reneau and Kel'el Ware have posted 27-point nights over the last two games and average of 15 points per game each. Mackenzie Mgbako has added reinforcement inside after becoming the first IU freshman since Trayce Jackson-Davis to post a double-double on the road, along with drawing Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors twice this season. Mgbako is averaging 11.6 points per game on 39.5% shooting from the field, along with 32% from deep. Freshman Gabe Cupps and senior Trey Galloway have anchored the backcourt this season and average a combined 13.3 points per game while Xavier Johnson made his first appearance in nearly a month in Tuesday's win against the Badgers, posting five points in nearly 15 minutes in the win, to bolster the Hoosiers' depth. For Maryland, assistant Mike Jones will be along the bench against Indiana and for the remainder of the season after being named the next head coach at Old Dominion on Friday. Related Links
