Maryland basketball adds Coppin State to 2023-24 schedule

Another domino has dropped for Maryland basketball's 2023-24 schedule as Maryland will host Coppin State on December 28, per Rocco Miller. https://twitter.com/RoccoMiller8/status/1663616417563017216?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet It will mark the second consecutive season and the third all-time matchup between Maryland and Coppin State, only this year, Terp fans won't see a familiar face along the opposing sideline. Former Maryland star Juan Dixon was fired in mid-March after six seasons with the program, but left Coppin State in the midst of a lawsuit against the school involving a former player and assistant. Coppin State turned the page and announced Larry Stewart, a former star Eagle and one of two players in program history to reach the NBA, as the new head coach on May 5 following coaching stints at Bowie State, UMES and most recently Morgan State. “The main thing for me is that I always realize is that it’s not about me. It’s about these young men. It’s about teaching and growing, and it’s about getting the Coppin brand back to where it once was,” Stewart said on GCR. “… I’m going to look to build a program based on being the best on doing the little things because we all know those are the things that typically lose you basketball games. I’m just looking forward to the challenge. It’s not going to be easy. I’m just ready to get to work.” Maryland handily defeated the Eagles last season en route to its sixth consecutive win to begin the season as Julian Reese, Hakim Hart and Jahmir Young all finished with at least 21 points. Maryland's latest non-conference matchup adds to a growing schedule for next season that includes a road game against UCLA, a return to the Gavitt Games with a road game against Villanova and the Ashville Championship featuring a field with Clemson, Davidson and UAB. Though dates have not yet been set, the Big Ten has already announced that Maryland will host Michigan, Nebraska and Purdue while traveling to Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin next season. Maryland will also have a home-and-away with Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State and Rutgers. Maryland will begin its preseason with a European tour on July 31 where the team will embark on a ten-day trip to Italy featuring three exhibition games across four cities. Related Links
