Maryland baseball takes Saturday doubleheader to beat Boston College

In its final road series of the season, Maryland baseball was able to sweep Saturday's doubleheader to take the series against Boston College in Chestnut Hill. It marks the third consecutive weekend series that Maryland has won. Here's a look at how the weekend played out. Saturday (G1): Maryland 8, Boston College 1 (7 innings) The Terps blew BC out of the water in game one thanks in large part to a huge first inning. Maryland scored six times off of Eagles' starter John West although ironically, they scored the first 4 runs without any RBIS. Eddie Hacopian made it 6-0 with a two-run double in his second at-bat of the first inning. Kevin Keister continued his hot hitting with a home run in the 3rd inning, as well. The Terps scored their eighth and final run in the fifth inning on a sac fly by Devin Russell. Omar Melendez was fabulous on the mound pitching Maryland's first 7-inning complete game since 2012. He allowed just the one earned run to BC which came in the fourth inning, and gave up just four hits and two walks. https://twitter.com/TerpsBaseball/status/1789408368899305731 Saturday (G2): Maryland 5, Boston College 3 The Terps scored first again in game two on Saturday plating four runs in the third inning on a two-run knock from Chris Hacopian, followed by a throwing error, and then an RBI single from Jacob Orr. BC responded in the fourth with two of their own on RBIs from Cameron Leary and Kyle Wolff. The score would remain 4-2 until Chris Hacopian knocked in his second run of the day to make it 5-2. It got a tad dicey in the ninth when Logan Berrier loaded the bases after giving up an RBI walk, but Berrier picked up two strikeouts to end the game and give Maryland the win, and doubleheader sweep. https://twitter.com/TerpsBaseball/status/1789665066557575286 Sunday: Boston College 2, Maryland 1 Sunday's series finale was quite the pitchers duel, with the Eagles coming out on top to avoid the sweep. BC struck in the bottom of the first with a Nick Wang RBI double, but that was it for a long while. The teams combined for just seven baserunners before the top of the eighth inning, when Chris Hacopian homered to tie the game at 1. But Wang came up to lead off the bottom of the ninth and promptly homered off Andrew Johnson to give BC a 2-1 win. College baseball is all about getting hot at the right time and it could be that the Terps are doing just that. It's no secret that the middle of the season did not go the way the team had hoped it would, but they have shown great response by putting together three consecutive winning weekends at the back end of this season. Splendid Starting All three of Maryland's starters delivered a quality outing this weekend, something that hasn't happened a ton this season. In particular, Logan Koester put together his second consecutive quality start in game two on Saturday after struggling for a majority of April. Chaos Incoming Following the results of Big Ten games this weekend, Maryland is tied with Ohio State and Michigan State for 7th place in the conference. The likely scenario barring absolute madness is two of those three teams getting into the Big Ten Tournament with the other one's season ending. A series loss to Penn State next weekend could be fatal for the Terps, depending on what else happens across the conference. Up next: As mentioned, Maryland returns to The Bob for their final regular season series beginning Thursday against Penn State. The Terps won their second straight regular season title on Penn State's field last year to close the regular season, so the Nittany Lions will do all they can to keep Maryland out of Omaha for the Big Ten Tournament.
