Maryland (42-19, 17-7) vs. Wake Forest (48-10, 22-7) Time: 6 PM EST TV: ACC Network Spread (as of 12 AM): Wake Forest -1.5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXs4kTG5uRY Maryland will look to win its seventh consecutive game on Saturday, but they’ll do so against arguably their toughest opponent when they take on top-seeded Wake Forest in the win. Saturday’s contest will mark the 164th all-time matchup between the two teams as Wake Forest holds the series lead, 59-30. Maryland defeated Wake Forest, 10-5, last year in the College Park Regional as the Demon Deacons will now look to get their revenge at home. Maryland got their revenge against Northeastern on Friday afternoon with a 7-2, headlined by Nick Lorusso going 3-for-4 with three RBIs including opening the game with a home run for his 100th RBI of the season. The Terps’ star became the first D1 player to record the feat in 20 years, while Friday’s win gives Maryland its second-most victories in a season. Jason Savacool (9-5) picked up the win while Eddie Hacopian drove in a pair of RBIs, including one of two RBIs to extend the lead in the fifth inning. “I thought it was a very business-like win,” head coach Rob Vaughn said after the win. “Northeastern is really good, reminds me eerily of the UConn team we played last year. They're tough, they’re well-coached, they play hard. We made pitches when we needed to. I thought Jason , Lippman and Johnson all made pitches when we needed to.” Wake Forest breezed by George Mason in a 12-0 win as pitcher Seth Keener recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts to help the Deacs shutout its nation-leading tenth opponent of the season. Friday night’s win marked a new program record for Wake after recording their 48th win of the season. “That’s an elite-level ball club and they deserve every right to be ranked the number one ranked team in the nation and deserve everything that they’re getting right now,” Vaughn added. “I think we’ve just got an older group that I think understands the mound is still 60 foot, six inches away and we still are 90 feet away and it’s just who can execute? Who can execute with the game on the line? who can be themselves and do what they do with everything else swirling around them the one who comes out of this thing Sunday or Monday.” Related Links Pitching stays strong as Maryland baseball tops Northeastern, 7-2 Maryland set to host committed cornerback for official visit (+) Pair of linemen set official visits, two more set to camp on Saturday (+) Maryland leads for linebacker target, sets official visit (+)
