St. John’s (DC) safety Shamar McIntosh is no stranger to College Park, and the 6-foot-2, 185–pound senior was back in College Park to watch Maryland’s dominant win over Indiana on Saturday.
McIntosh took a close look at how the secondary largely limited the Hoosiers’ aerial attack before keying in on one player.
“The defense balled out ,” McIntosh told IBG. “Number 13 on the defense, I like how he pursues the ball and I talked to coach Williams about him. He was talking about how he had a long journey, he had to work his way through and get up so when he got to shine, he’s showing out and been playing good. That’s the kind of player that I can be.”
McIntosh was able to connect with defensive coordinator Brian Williams on the visit, who’s led the charge through the fall, and it’s clear why the three-star safety enjoys a comfortable relationship between the two. “I always have good conversations with him. He just keeps telling me to keep going, keep putting my foot on the pedal. He motivates me to keep going. They’ve been telling me to keep coming up to games.”
McIntosh has kept his recruitment quiet through the season with Boston College, Marshall, Tennessee, USF and West Virginia among the schools to extend verbal offers. McIntosh is still looking to take his first official visit while Saturday marked his first trip to College Park of the season, but the Terps have remained in contact with the hard-hitting safety.
McIntosh doesn’t have any future visits set yet, but Maryland remains one of his top options.
“They’re one of my top that I’ll probably lock in with,” McIntosh said, adding that Marshall, Pitt and Akron have been in most frequent contact.
McIntosh is rated a three-star prospect and an 85 overall by On3, sitting as the seventh-best player in DC.
