Local safety takes note of competition during visit for Terps' practice

Maryland has brought in a long list of local visitors through spring ball as Rock Creek (MD) made their way to campus last week. 2025 wide receiver Giyahni Kontosis was among those to make the trip in as the 6-foot-1, 175-pound has kept a close eye on the hometown program early in the process. It was a great experience with my teammates, showing them around. I’ve been there a couple of times so I was showing them around a little bit,” Kontosis told IBG. “I loved it. It was a lot of competition up there. I never knew Maryland was competing like this. I just loved the receiver unit. I got a chance to talk to coach Brewer.” Former assistant Elijah Brooks was the one originally running point for the new PG County program but it’s been Brewer who has picked up the pace since then. “Coach Brooks was the one who offered me, coach Brooks and coach Locks, but coach Brewer has come by our school. I’ve talked to him a bit before but I’m starting to get to know him a bit more.” The visit also gave Kontosis, 2026 safety Jireh Edwards and their teammates a chance to sit down with head coach Mike Locksley. “Coach Locks talked to me and six of my other teammates because we’ve all got offers. The recruits that have the offers, coach Locks pulled us aside and told us to stay home. He was giving us advice and telling us to follow our coaches, follow their direction,” he added. Kontosis has already made his way to Virginia Tech and hopes to visit both Boston College and Tennessee this summer, but there’s a reason why his latest visit to College Park gave him a different perspective. “The competition. I really just loved the facilities too but the competition was what impressed me the most because when I was up there, I could really see myself in that campus. Me personally, I’m a competitive guy so seeing that up there, see the coaches, how fast they move around. I loved all of that.” Kontosis is not yet rated by On3, but is a three-star and an 88 overall by 247. Related Links
