It didn’t take long for offseason workouts to begin at Good Counsel after their WCAC semifinal loss. Three-star offensive lineman Kyle Altuner has made the weight room a priority this offseason as the 6-foot-3 is down from 310 to 285 pounds. “I’m trying to lean out a good amount. I’d like to play the season 290 or 295 but right now just trying to lean down and put on better muscle instead of just mass,” Altuner told IBG. Aside from person workouts in the morning and team workouts three times per week, the three-star lineman is keeping close tabs on his recruitment as he’s started to privately trim his list. Next month, he’ll head north to check out a pair of Big Ten schools. “I’m going to get up to Michigan and Michigan State, try and hit those since they’re in the same area. Hit a spring practice and a visit on the side.” Though not set, Altuner will look to hit a handful of regional schools. “I’ll probably hit some local schools, hit up Maryland if I can on the weekend. I’m looking at Penn State again, Boston College. I saw they got coach Applebaum back which I was pretty excited to see. He coached a guy that I know, Zion Johnson.” Maryland sent multiple assistants to Good Counsel last month with the staff after several in the 2024 and 2025 class while monitoring the 2026 prospects and it’s outside linebacker coach James Thomas reaching out the most thus far. “I still text, stay in touch. They come through the school a lot at Good Counsel, so I’ve been staying in contact with the coaches there like coach Thomas, coach Braswell. I give him the message sometimes, sometimes I see him in school. I’m still keeping him close in contact for sure.” Head coach Mike Locksley has been able to build the relationship dating back to 2021 and keeps tabs on the local target. “I’ll talk to him here and there. It’s not very often, but when it does, it’s always good conversation and we’re able to catch up on things.” Altuner is also looking ahead to June and has a pair of schools in mind for official visits. “I’m trying to see if I can get to Miami. I really like what coach Mario Cristobal is doing and I like the way he coaches the game. Trying to find the time to get there as well. Michigan is pretty high but that’s kind of the only two that are far away schools that have been doing a good job of keeping in contact with me. those are the only ones I’m planning for the future, but I’m starting to narrow it down recently, so I’ll probably figure it out soon in a couple of months or so. Nothing set in stone, though.” Altuner is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by On3. He’s ranked the 20th-best prospect in Maryland and 53rd-best interior offensive lineman this cycle.
