Riverdale Baptist (MD) fell in overtime against Georgetown Prep (MD) at home on Friday night, 16-14, but three-star prospect Jayvon McFadden was dominant as the Crusaders’ left tackle as the 6-foot-4, 278-pound lineman settles in at his new school.
“I feel like me and my teammates, we came out here, we worked hard and worked all week in practice. We came up short but we’re going to get back in the lab Monday,” McFadden told IBG. “I’m going to keep leading these guys. We’re going to hold each other accountable as young men and just get the win next week.”
After transferring from St. John’s (DC) to St. Frances, McFadden played one game for the Panthers before joining the group of players departing the program. Staying around the 275 to 280 range heading into the season was a focus for the priority lineman to maintain his athleticism, which was evident during Friday night’s loss.

“I wanted to be able to move. My freshman year I was kind of bigger, so I wanted to put it on the right way, get swole, look good and won’t be tired in the fourth quarter,” McFadden added.
The local three-star was slated to visit Maryland on Saturday but didn’t make it in, but McFadden did suit up against Georgetown Prep with lead recruiter Kevin Sumlin along the sideline. Maryland has prioritized the tackle target in the early stages of his recruitment and as they battle the likes of Georgia, Kentucky, Miami (FL), Michigan, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Penn State and South Carolina among others, McFadden feels the focus from the hometown team.
“All the Maryland staff does a good job of recruiting, being out there, reaching out, texting, Facetiming when they can, calling. I appreciate that because they’re in their season and they could do other stuff, but they make sure that I’m a priority for Maryland and that they want me,” he added. “I talk to coach Locksley, coach Braswell, coach Sumlin. All those guys reach out.”
McFadden has taken note of the Terps’ hot start, but it’s the consistency early that’s kept them in the conversation.
“The thing I feel like Maryland does well is they keep in contact and they kind of let me know that hey, we want our best talent to stay home. We want you. We want you right here in our backyard. They really do an amazing job.”
McFadden was able to make it to Penn State’s White Out win vs. Iowa, while he’s planning to visit Knoxville for Tennessee’s home game against Texas A&M along with another Big Ten school.
“It’s kind of cold, but I think in November I’ll probably go up to Ohio State. Just go around the country.”
Jayvon McFadden is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, sitting as the 17th-best player in Maryland.
