2024 forward Rob Dockery will step into a larger role at Jackson-Reed (DC), formerly Woodrow Wilson (DC), this winter but the 6-foot-5 four-star has seen his stock soar through the offseason. LSU, Rutgers and Virginia Tech have offered since picking up an offer from Maryland back on June 30 and the 207-pound forward will look to visit a couple of schools.
“I’m going to take some coming up,” Dockery told Inside the Black and Gold. “Georgia, LSU and Xavier. I know Georgia is first, this month but the rest will probably be during school when the kids get back on campus.” Maryland, meanwhile, will also likely host the local product for a visit next month as Dockery works out dates. Assistant coach David Cox has been in contact and spoke again with Dockery last week.
“I talk to him a lot. I just talked to him like Wednesday,” he added. Maryland has a pair of local commitments in the 2023 class in guards Jahnathan Lamothe and Jamie Kaiser and are awaiting a final decision from local four-star DeShawn Harris-Smith and Dockery has taken note of the Terps’ renewed presence in the DMV. “I like that they’ve got local guys. I like that a lot. We’ve got a lot of talent in the area so it’s good to see the local guys play for the hometown team.”
With Cox leading the way, Dockery has also been able to build on his early rapport with head coach Kevin Willard. “He’s good about keeping up with me. Last time I talked to him was when they came to our tournament at South Carolina but he’s checked up on me here and there since then.”
With Dockery’s recruitment in the early stages, the Wilson standout flashed his smooth handles and efficiency around the basket through the live periods as he gradually elevated his national profile. As the offers continue to come in, Dockery isn’t looking to make any decisions on his recruitment as he evaluates the play styles of schools showing interest. Until then, he’ll look to put Jackson-Reed back on the map.
“Just winning, for real. I just want to win states. We came up short last year so trying to top that for my junior season.”
Dockery is rated a four-star prospect and a 94 overall in the 2024 On3 rankings, sitting as the 54th-best player nationally and the second-best prospect in D.C. Dockery was also named to the Capital Hoops Summer League first team.
