The cold streak on the recruiting trail for head coach Buzz Williams and Maryland men’s basketball as Latrell Allmond has gone public with his decision, committing to Oklahoma State over a final group including Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia and Indiana.
Allmond is fresh off his official visit to Maryland beginning Oct. 10, giving Maryland and head coach Buzz Williams the final pitch ahead of his planned commitment on Oct. 13, his birthday.
Maryland already has a pair committed in the 2026 class in three-star Austin Brown and four-star Adama Tambedou as the staff has hosted a long list of targets over the last month in hopes of adding a third, but Allmond’s commitment serves as the latest miss in the Terps’ efforts this cycle. Maryland has already watched a long list of targets come off the board like four-star Anthony Brown (Vanderbilt), Junior County (UConn) and Jackson Sheffield (Vanderbilt) with at least four roster spots to fill next offseason.
One cycle after landing a McDonald’s All-American for the program’s second straight cycle, Allmond already serves as one of the biggest recruiting wins for head coach Buzz Williams as the staff prioritized the Virginia native since the live period early in the summer. The four-star quietly made his way to campus for an unofficial visit in July, but despite making his top nine, Maryland entered the fall on the outside-looking-in with Oklahoma State viewed as the top competition. But Williams didn’t give up, making the trip to check on Allmond in early September before finalizing a last-minute official to get him on campus ahead of his set commitment date. Allmond took a summer official visit to Indiana before visiting Virginia, Tennessee and Oklahoma State in consecutive weekends through September, giving Maryland the last say during his official visit over the weekend.
Allmond was slated to fill a key role in Maryland’s class with the staff looking to replace its entire frontcourt in 2026-27 with Pharrel Payne, Solomon Washington, Collin Metcalf and Elijah Saunders all entering their final season of college basketball. The four-star shot over 47% from three during the Adidas summer circuit and averaged a career-high 21.8 points during his junior season as he enters his senior season at Petersburg (VA) nearly averaging a double-double through high school with 16 points and nine rebounds.
With a two-man class still intact for Maryland, all eyes now turn to prized Blake (MD) five-star forward Baba Oladotun after rolling out the red carpet for his mid-September official visit as Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Villanova are among the schools involved heading into his senior season.
