Intel: where Maryland football stands with remaining 2025 targets

Maryland football picked up its 18th commitment of the 2025 cycle late Tuesday night after Milford Mill (MD) three-star Amory Hills went public with his decision hours after telling the staff, giving the Terps more momentum on the recruiting trail and especially among the local ranks. With several more targets on the cusp of decisions, including a pair of commitments set for Saturday, we review where Maryland stands with its top 2025 targets heading into the rest of July: Warwick (VA) four-star SAF Messiah Delhomme Heading into a July decision, Delhomme is still bouncing between Maryland and Virginia Tech with Ohio State lurking in his recruitment. The Buckeyes already have three commitments at the position and remain in play for blue-chip safety Trey McNutt, which has complicated their pursuit of Delhomme with the four-star in wait-and-see mode coming off his spring injury. Maryland, meanwhile, was able to roll out the red carpet for the top defensive target where the full defensive staff helped the Terps become a 1A/1B contender with the Hokies, and depending who you talk to, a visit that gave the Terps the lead. Delhomme hasn’t tipped his hand at all, though, with steady confidence surrounding the Terps and Hokies into the start of July led by a full staff effort from Maryland. Salem (VA) four-star OL Jaylen Gilchrist The longtime Virginia priority is down to a final three – Georgia, Maryland and South Carolina – but the buzz still sits between Maryland and South Carolina in his recruitment. South Carolina was able to cement its lead on their May 31 official visit as Gilchrist has never been shy that the Gamecocks were his top school, but his most recent official visit to Maryland beginning June 21 solidified the Terps’ chances down the stretch as a challenger. There remains confidence in Maryland’s chances with Gilchrist as the staff works to break into the blue-chip talent in Virginia, and the steady momentum on the trail has only added fuel to the Terps’ pursuit down the stretch. Gilchrist has bunkered down into decision mode following his Maryland official visit with a summer commitment on the horizon and after adding their third OL on Tuesday night, Gilchrist remains the top priority along the offensive line with assistant Latrell Scott spearheading a collective staff effort. Mainland (FL) three-star DT Christian Hudson The Florida DT is set to announce his commitment this upcoming on Saturday at 5:55 PM among a final group of Maryland, Iowa, UCF and Iowa State but this is now coming down to Maryland and Iowa with steady chances around both team’s chances. The Hawkeyes securing the final official visit has made Iowa a top contender with steady confidence around their chances, but the school making it most tough in his recruitment remains Maryland where the staff’s attention and Florida presence along the roster has made the Terps a viable contender. The buzz currently sits with Maryland in Hudson’s recruitment, though a source said he has yet to notify coaches of his final decision. Hudson sits as ‘warm’ on the big board and is the target who I am closest to upgrading to ‘hot’ heading into his decision. Friendship Collegiate (DC) four-star DL Bryce Jenkins The four-star lineman is set to announce his commitment at 6 PM on Saturday among a final group of Maryland, Tennessee, South Carolina and Rutgers. Rutgers helped open the door in his recruitment before making his way to the two schools who separated themselves in June – Maryland and Tennessee. The Vols made themselves a frequent contender through Jenkins’ recruitment as Tennessee nearly hosted the four-star more than Maryland, an understandable development given that’s where his dad once played, but the Terps’ attention on their local target has been too much to ignore. Co-DCs Aazaar Abdul-Rahim and Brian Williams have teamed up through the spring where Jenkins has long been fond of the idea of staying closer to home at the next level, giving him the sense of comfort in College Park that he’s looked for. And even with NIL rumblings in his recruitment through June, sources have told IBG that Maryland has remained competitive throughout. Jenkins sits as ‘hot’ on the big board heading into Saturday’s decision. North Caroline (MD) four-star WR Zymear Smith This could be a big month for the four-star athlete after Smith takes his time to remain patient with the process. Smith has bunkered down after his June 21 official visit to Maryland, a visit that placed the Terps as the team to beat in his recruitment. The intel on Smith now remains the same as it was last week: it’ll be interesting whether the committed four-star is still committed to the Crimson Tide by the end of the month. Smith isn’t looking to make any final changes to his commitment status until the end of his senior year though, while sources continue to tell IBG that the Terps are the frontrunner for the wide receiver target, who remains capable of becoming an option in the return game in 2025 and beyond. St. Frances (MD) four-star CB Blake Woodby Nearly two weeks remove from his second and what’s now expected to be his final official visit, Woodby released a final three with Auburn, Maryland and Oregon still in the mix. The local buzz has still sat with Auburn where the Tigers have gone above and beyond to make Woodby feel at home in The Plains to fit both his football and off-field interests. The recent addition of four-star LB Bryce Deas only adds to the Tigers’ fire as Woodby is expected to visit Auburn at the end of July, but there’s uncertainty how soon the four-star will opt to pull the trigger. Woodby told IBG that his OV to Maryland would mark his last prior to his decision with buzz that he could shift up his timeline to a decision ahead of his senior year, but that may not hold true with Woodby in no rush to make a second and final commitment. While Oregon was initially expected to host Woodby for a late November visit ahead of a decision, the buzz sits with Maryland as the team in position to alter Auburn’s momentum in this recruitment.
