Maryland is now close to having a key piece in the secondary back on the field ahead of today’s Big Ten opener vs. Washington.
CB Jamare Glasker is off the injury report and set to return for the first time since the week two win vs. NIU, providing an expected but notable boost for a secondary set to defend WR Denzel Boston.
QB Justyn Martin, WR Zymear Smith, WR Josiah McLaurin, OLB Nahsir Taylor, DL Solomon Foye, DL DD Holmes, DL Bryce Jenkins and OT Jaylen Gilchrist are all ruled out vs. Washington while CB Braydon Lee is ruled questionable.
For the first time, Maryland has also announced season-ending injuries to RB Bud Coombs, ATH DJ Samuels, CB Judah Jenkins, LB Keyari James and OL Mike McMonigle with Samuels the newest addition after getting hurt in the week four win vs. Wisconsin.
Washington will be without at least key pieces on Saturday, including one injury that likely vaults a former Terp into the starting lineup.
CB Tacario Davis, OT Carver Willis and edge Zach Durfee are all expected to be sidelined vs. Maryland, first reported by Pete Thamel ahead of the Big Ten’s injury availability. Davis is ruled as questionable with both Willis and Durfee officially ruled out. Durfee will miss his first game of the season after leaving last week’s game vs. Ohio State, but the absence of Willis marks a significant blow for Huskies’ offensive line. His departure will likely vault Max McCree, who began his career at Maryland, in at left tackle vs. Maryland.
“[He] had a couple junior college stops, had to not play football for a while to help take care of his family and his mom then brought him back,” HC Jedd Fisch said of McCree earlier this week. “I think that where he’s at now, he was actually playing at a really good level before his injury a year ago. He was going to be our starting left tackle for the remainder of the season once he was able to get cleared but unfortunately against Iowa, he got hurt. He came back, ready to go, had a really, really good camp and he was never discouraged by having Harper here. It actually helped him get better. Carver is still going to continue to fight to get back and play and Max is going to be ready if Carver can’t and he’ll be ready to go as long as Carver can’t.”
