In-State Prospect Set to Return to Maryland

2024 Milford Mill (MD) three-star quarterback Deshawn Purdie already visited Maryland so far this fall, but this weekend’s visit gave him a different view of the field prior to kickoff. Purdie was among the recruits invited to stand at midfield and watch the team warm up. “It was only my second visit but that was my first time right there,” he told Inside the Black and Gold. “Usually I’m in the back of the endzone so that was a good view. Talked to coach Enos while he was warming up the quarterbacks. That was a cool experience. That was a new thing for me. That was an awesome view.” That gave him an opportunity to also see offensive coordinator Dan Enos warming up his players before reconnecting. “He did tell me that I was having a great season. My numbers are looking really good and my midseason film looks really good. He’s going to try and get down for a game.” After previously watching Taulia Tagovailoa lead the offense, Purdie knew the offense could show more explosiveness but noted the Terps’ scoring offense with Billy Edwards making his first career start. “The offense wasn’t the same because you know, different quarterback so you’ve got to adjust. Even the backup was really good. They put 31 points up with a backup so I thought that was amazing. The offense fits your style so it’s looking pretty good to me.” With Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Oregon, Nebraska and a handful of HBCUs showing interest, Purdie said that it’s Maryland, Pittsburgh and Nebraska who are more consistent. The Panthers are working on a potential visit, but instead, Purdie has scheduled a return visit to College Park. “I’ll be back for the Rutgers game with some of my teammates so they can get the same experience that I got,” he added. “Pitt is trying to get me up there but I’d rather do 45 minutes than three, four hours of a drive.” Purdie is rated a three-star prospect and an 88 overall by On3.
