Hunter Dickinson sets his commitment date

The end is officially near in the Hunter Dickinson sweepstakes.
Dickinson announced he will make his commitment on Thursday among a presumed final group including Maryland, Kentucky, Kansas and Villanova.
"Before I announce tomorrow where I will be attending next year, I wanted to take the time to say thank you. Thank you to the coaching staff who believed in me and made me the player I am today. To all the players I've played with during my time at Michigan, I know without you guys I could've never become the player I am today and accomplish what we accomplished. And lastly to the fans, you guys showed me so much love in my 3 years. I really felt like a part of the community and like Ann Arbor was my second home. Thank you," Dickinson wrote on social media.
Maryland has long been after the former Michigan and DeMatha star with two familiar faces, Mike Jones and Jahmir Young, in place in College Park. Dickinson made a trip to Maryland weeks ago for an unofficial visit, one day after he unofficially visited Georgetown.
“Maryland was real cool," Dickinson said during his latest podcast. "Just being home, I’d seen the gym, obviously, because I’ve been there for a lot of games. And I’ve seen the practice facility and a little bit of the locker room and stuff like that. But just going around campus and really hanging out with the coaching staff was really cool, just kind of meeting them and kind of meet Willard, because obviously I’ve played against Willard. I know a little bit about him, but to kind of really hear him talk for a little bit, had my family meet him, meet Coach Cox. Obviously, I know coach Jones really well. But it was a real cool visit. I was happy to be back in the DMV, so there was that.”
Dickinson has since taken official visits to Kansas, Kentucky, and Villanova. There was a potential that Dickinson took one more official visit, but that door appeared to close after his latest visit to check out second-year head coach, Kyle Neptune.
Which way Dickinson is leaning is a question that still seems to be unanswered with confidence coming out from seemingly all of Dickinson’s top suitors at various points down the stretch. Whether Maryland pulls off the blockbuster remains to be seen, but the Terps remain in the thick of the chase with his potential addition elevating Maryland to a preseason top-ten team.
The 7-foot-1 center was a force for Michigan last season, averaging 14.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game.
