Highland Springs QB Khristian Martin sets commitment date

Maryland football now has 16 commitments heading into the end of the July dead period and they’ll hope to add at least one more at the end of the month with Virginia quarterback Khristian Martin setting his commitment date. Martin, a 6-foot-2.5, 200-pound quarterback out of Highland Springs (VA), is set to announce his commitment on July 30. Martin took official visits to Virginia and then Maryland while Virginia Tech and Texas A&M were in the mix as the Terps have long been involved. https://twitter.com/KhrisMartin2024/status/1682811877028503553?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet Former offensive coordinator Dan Enos made the trip to watch Martin in action last season while wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer first led the charge. It was running backs coach Latrell Scott who picked up efforts after he joined the program with offensive coordinator Josh Gattis chipping in as well, even connecting with Martin and his parents while on campus for Maryland’s 7-on-7 the first weekend of June. Martin also took an unofficial visit to Maryland for the first spring practice before returning for his official visit the weekend of June 23. “Coach Gattis has had monstrous success in his offenses. Coach Locksley has coached multiple successful quarterbacks, so I mean, that speaks for itself when you have multiple quarterbacks that have played under you who have gone on to play at the next level, which is something I’d ultimately like to do,” Martin said following his official visit to Maryland. “It shows that obviously, you’re doing something right because you’re putting guys at the next level. Their word speaks for itself.” The need for a quarterback this cycle remains prevalent with veteran Taulia Tagovailoa exhausting his eligibility following the 2023 season. Maryland has an experienced option in Billy Edwards returning while second-year quarterback Cam Edge drew praise for his development through spring ball. Maryland has prioritized Martin into the summer to restock the room as he decides between the regional schools. Khristian Martin is rated a three-star prospect and an 84 overall by On3, sitting as the 38th-best prospect in Virginia and the 101st-best quarterback in the 2024 class. Related Links
