A pair of former Terps have found new homes with the college basketball transfer portal swirling into May.
With Gonzaga, Miami and Kansas rounding out his top four, Hakim Hart announced he’ll play his final season of college at Villanova where the Philly native gets a chance to play in front of his home crowd. Hart, who is still going through the 2023 NBA Draft process, teams up with DMV native and Nova star Justin Moore in Kyle Neptune’s second season as head coach.
Hart was one of a handful of veterans who anchored the culture shift under year one of Kevin Willard, but the Philly product also closed out his career at Maryland on a high note. Finishing as the third-leading scorer this season, Hart averaged a career-best 11.5 points while averaging 4.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game during the regular season. Finishing just 38 points away from 1,000 as a Terp, Hart finished with four 20-point games highlighted by a 23-point performance in the win at home over Penn State. Hart’s 77 assists and 35 steals during the regular season ranked second on the team as the Philly native was a key piece in the Terps allowing their lowest opponent scoring average in 40 years. After dropping 15 points in the win vs. West Virginia, Hart finished with just three points in the season-ending loss to Alabama.
He wasn’t the only one as second-year guard Ike Cornish will close his college career at Ohio. The addition of Cornish was announced by the program on Friday as the Baltimore native steps into an increased role.
Cornish became the first departure this offseason after sparingly playing in Willard’s first year at Maryland.
Cornish signed with Maryland in what would be the final recruiting class that Mark Turgeon signed as head coach with Cornish joining Julian Reese and James Graham, who departed last season. Cornish battled injuries to open the season and struggled to find his role once Willard turned to a seven-man rotation.Related Links
