Good Counsel has no shortage of talent in its 2024 class and Maryland was able to get defensive end Darien Mayo on campus for the win over SMU. The 6-foot-6, 240-pound prospect added an offer from Maryland during the evaluation period as defensive coordinator Brian Williams and outside linebackers coach James Thomas stopped by his school during the final week.
Mayo was briefly able to connect with head coach Mike Locksley ahead of the game. “I talked to coach locksley for like five min before the game,” Mayo told Inside the Black and Gold. “It was great just trying to build the relationship even more.” Mayo staying for the entirety of the game bolstered his impression of the game. “It was a great environment, the crowd was definitely into it.”
Mayo previously told Inside the Black and Gold that it’s Maryland who held the edge in his recruitment as Thomas paves the way for the Terps. The two have been able to strengthen the relationship since then and Mayo holds his area recruiter in high regard. “It’s going great he’s a great coach.”
What does Mayo think of Maryland?
“A really great school with a great education system.”
