Georgia DB set for first look at Maryland this weekend

Maryland already has one commitment this cycle from a Georgia defensive back with Cedar Grove (GA) cornerback Lakhi Roland in the fold, but the staff is in the mix for another as Buford (GA) three-star safety TyShun White is set to officially visit College Park this weekend. Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson offered White back on May 8 after watching the 5-foot-11, 185-pound safety in action but it’s been safeties coach Zac Spavital leading the way since then. “That’s my guy,” White added. “He’s not always just talking to football. If I have a question about anything, he always tells me to call him and things like that. He’s definitely a big inspiration.” Maryland became the latest Power Five school to offer White but despite the shortened pursuit heading into the visit, White credits the consistency from Spavital as reason why the Terps have ascended into his top group. “The connection that we built because coach Spavital just got there, so him letting me know that and why it took so long. I wanted to give him a chance and seeing his resume, I definitely want to check them out.” White already has one official in the books following a trip to North Carolina over the weekend with defensive back Don Chapman serving as his host. “I’ve been up there a couple of times now but this is my first official visit though. This time was just seeing more of the school, hanging out with the coaches, the players.” After Maryland, White will head to Michigan State with secondary coach Harlon Barnett in pursuit. White also visited East Lansing back in late January, giving him plenty of familiarity of what to expect, but his upcoming visits to both Maryland and Michigan State will give him a chance to dive deeper into both programs. “I want to see everything since it’s my first time. Not just the football part, but NIL, the school.” White added that Maryland, Michigan State and North Carolina make up his top group of schools with a decision expected shortly thereafter. “I’d say these are my top. It’s coming down to these schools.” White is rated a three-star prospect and an 88 overall by On3, sitting as the 71st-best prospect in Georgia. Related Links Top-150 prospect sets OV (+)
