George Turkson the latest Aggie following Buzz Williams to Maryland men's basketball

The fourth Aggie is following head coach Buzz Williams to College Park after redshirt freshman George Turkson went public with his transfer to Maryland men’s basketball.

Turkson, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward four-star in the 2024 class, redshirted in 2024-25 and joins the program with four years of eligibility. Turkson entered the transfer portal back on April 3, one of four Aggies to enter with a 'Do Not Contact' tag alongside Pharrel Payne, Solomon Washington and Andre Mills. He becomes the sixth transfer portal commit and fourth Aggie to follow Buzz Williams to College Park.

“Our entire program is excited to add George Turkson to the family,” former Texas A&M assistant coach Steve Roccaforte said via release when the four-star was signed. “Having learned the game under Coach Vin Pastore at Bradford Christian Academy, George knows how to impact winning on both sides of the basketball. Every single possession, George will bring an unmatched level of energy, toughness and physicality.”

Turkson is rated a fringe four-star transfer prospect by On3, drawing an 89 overall rating, where he now heads to College Park bolstering the Terps’ frontcourt alongside Payne and Washington. He also gives the frontcourt a long-term piece under Buzz Williams as the former four-star out of high school made a name for as a pesky defender with a reliable shooting touch around the rim.

“George Turkson is a lengthy athlete with a lot of explosive pop. He is a natural defender with instincts both at the rim and in the passing lanes. He is a sneaky weak-side shot-blocker and understands angles and rotations on that end. Offensively, he is most comfortable in the mid-range and playing from the mid-and high-post areas. He has a smooth catch and shoot jumper from 18-feet. Turkson will need to continue developing the ball skills and extending the range on his jumper, but there is something about his workmanlike demeanor and current production that you trust.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
