Another weekend of Friday night lights is in the books as Maryland's 2023 class moves to the halfway point of their senior seasons. We take a look at how they fared over the weekend and what the season outlook looks like.
CB Kevis Thomas: Lownes had a big upset over Grayson 24-14 to move to 3-2 on the year. Thomas caught three passes for 97 yards.
DL Dillan Fontus, SAF Tayvon Nelson: After getting blown out by Tottenville last fall, Canarsie pulled out a 27-20 win at home to move to 1-1 on the season. They'll enjoy a bye week before they face Wagner in early October.
DE DJ Samuels: Bergen Catholic suffered their first loss of the season to Don Bosco 31-7, ending a win streak that dated back to last season. Samuels recorded the team’s only sack of the game and finished with five tackles while registering one carry for four yards. They'll look to rebound against DePaul Catholic on Friday night in what should be a showdown between two of the top teams in the region. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UwRPIjN3mU&feature=youtu.be
WR Ryan Manning: Saint Frances remained undefeated after beating Dutch Fork 26-7. Manning didn't find the endzone this weekend as the Panthers continue their national tour this fall, but St. Frances has been clicking on offense with 2024 four-star Mike Van Buren picking apart opposing defenses. The win over Dutch Fork, a perennial powerhouse in South Carolina, pushes the Panthers to 4-0 with a trip to Hawaii up next.
WR Braeden Wisloski: The Pennsylvania speedster rushed for 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns this weekend, but Southern Colombia Area lost to Danville 49-14.
TE Dylan Wade, WR Derrick Rodgers: Jones won a close one against West Orange 17-14. Wade caught the 10-yard touchdown pass that sealed the win for Jones and had five carries for 15 yards. Rodgers, meanwhile, flashed at cornerback, caught two passes for 12 yards and attempted a pass.
QB Robert Long: Peter’s Prep won a shootout against St. Joseph Regional 41-38. Long completed 11 of 22 passes for 234 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions and added another touchdown on the ground. Long's development was on full display after leading St. Peter's Prep on a two-minute scoring drive to take the lead to end the game, the final score from a 20-point unanswered run to complete the comeback. RB Nolan Ray: Running back Nolan Ray was cleared this week and suited up for his first game of his senior season on Friday night, hours after the Maryland staff stopped by his school ahead of the Michigan game. Ray, however, couldn't find the endzone as Brother Rice lost to Catholic Central 21-19.
LB Daniel Wingate, SAF Alex Moore: St. Vincent Pallotti won against Gilman 30-14. The defensive duo, along with linebacker Gabe Williams, have left their mark this season defensively as Wingate finished with several tackles while Moore registered one pass breakup on Friday afternoon.
OG Deandre Duffus: Chaminade-Madonna remained perfect on the year after shutting out Gulliver Prep 28-0. The Lions rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown on just ten carries.
WR Sean Williams: St. John’s won 41-24 against Central as Williams caught six passes for 124 yards, keeping the Cadets perfect on the season.
DT Lavon Johnson: Cheshire stayed undefeated with a 34-7 win against Conard. Johnson did not record any stats.
WR Josh Richards: East Orange won their first game of the season with a dominating 52-12 performance against Bloomfield.
TE AJ Szymanski: Loyola Blakefield was crushed by Mount St. Joseph 40-0. Szymanski
CB Jonathan Atkins: Madison County lost to Florida State University High School 21-6, their third consecutive loss this season.
OG Tamarus Walker: McDonogh lost to Archbishop Carroll 14-7. The offensive line only gave up one sack with nine tackles for loss.
CB Mykel Morman: Wise crushed Oxon Hill 61-0 and remain undefeated on the year.
