Cummings (NC) four-star wide receiver Jonathan Paylor wrapped up his four official visits back in June and now, he has set his commitment date with his final group solidified. Paylor, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound wide receiver, will make his decision on August 5 between Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, Penn State and South Carolina. Wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer has led the Terps’ pursuit of Paylor dating back last summer as the North Carolina product first made his way to College Park last fall for the Ohio State game. Despite missing out on his top eight in the spring, Maryland remained squarely in the picture for Paylor before bringing him to campus for an official visit the weekend of June 9 when North Carolina native Rico Walker served as Paylor’s host. After signing five receivers last cycle, Paylor was a longtime target for Maryland in the 2024 class with the familiarity making them an early contender. “It was great. They have a beautiful campus, have great facilities,” Paylor said in the spring. “It was kind of insane, that was probably top three facilities I’ve ever seen. But just overall being around the fans, being around the mascot, being on the field with the coaches, talking with the players after the game. Really getting a chance to evaluate the program, it was great.” South Carolina has been the longtime team to beat in Paylor’s recruitment, but he’ll give the in-state schools one last chance with unofficial visits to North Carolina and NC State set for next weekend. Maryland currently has two wide receivers committed in Jahmari Powell-Wonson and Josiah McLaurin. Paylor is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, sitting as the tenth-best prospect in North Carolina. Related Links
