Four-star safety talks second Maryland visit, impressions of program

Saturday marked the second visit of the season for Good Counsel (MD) four-star safety Faheem Delane, first visiting College Park for the win over Charlotte before returning again for Maryland’s first conference win at home this past weekend. Delane released a top list of schools back in March including Alabama, Florida, Florida State, USC, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Virginia Tech and South Carolina among a double-digit offer list as the coveted prospect has emerged as arguably the Falcons’ best defender regardless of class. The 6-foot-1.5, 200-pound four-star safety has been a familiar face in College Park over the last year, making his way to campus for a game last year before heading back to campus for a spring practice, as the top 2025 target has been impressed with the Terps’ hot start. “I thought it was going to be more of a rebuild year since they were losing corners but they definitely play fast, physical and with aggression,” Delane told IBG. With a sizeable portion of the focus this fall on laying the foundation for the 2025 class, the priority four-star connected with lead recruiter and outside linebacker coach James Thomas on the visit as the two have built a tight-knit relationship. Delane also had a chance to chat with defensive coordinator Brian Williams, while head coach Mike Locksley made his way to greet Delane with the four-star checking out the Terps at midfield. “Coach Locks, he’s been building the program the last few years. Last year they were good. This year they’re better. They’re definitely showing the work he put in with the program and I think they’re seeing the benefits of it now.” Delane is planning to return to Maryland likely for the Penn State game on Nov 4, but has a pair of visits already set elsewhere. “I’ll be at Tennessee for the Georgia game and the Ohio State vs. Penn State game,” which is set for October 21. Delane is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, sitting as the fourth-best player in Maryland and the nation’s 160th-best prospect.
