Maryland football was able to keep the recruiting momentum rolling into August after Highland Springs (VA) three-star quarterback Khristian Martin went public with his decision, giving the Terps their 17th pledge in the 2024 cycle. The announcement came one day after the staff hosted a long line of regional prospects for an invite-only event, but Maryland had another 2024 target on campus for a multi-day visit.
Jones (FL) four-star quarterback Trever Jackson arrived in College Park on Friday and visited through Saturday as he got an in-depth tour around College Park before checking out the features and amenities inside Jones-Hill House. “It was nice, it was real nice. It was eye-opening. I didn’t know anything about Maryland other than the one kid back then, so coming in, I saw everything. Everything is super nice, high tech and they do a really good job of checking up on their players, developing their players, making sure everybody is in shape,” Jackson told IBG. “They make sure everything is good.”
Jackson also got a chance to sit down with offensive coordinator Josh Gattis and head coach Mike Locksley as the duo dove into Jackson’s fit within the offense. “We had some sit downs with them. You can tell with coach Locksley at ‘Bama and coach Gattis at Michigan, they have the good offensive mindset. It’s pretty cool in-person.”
That discussion also included additional clarity given, at the time, the staff was on the cusp on a public commitment from another quarterback.
“They talked to me about it. They said they’re taking two so whether he’s coming or not, they’d still want me to come in and compete.”
Along with Gattis, outside linebacker coach James Thomas is involved as the area recruiter with a chance to add another Jones playmaker for the second consecutive cycle. While this weekend marked Jackson’s first visit to College Park, Maryland solidified themselves as a contender.
“They have a very good impression. That was a very good first impression. They answered all my questions, answered all the academic questions for my parents. They talked about the life after football, they answered all of those questions.”
Jackson originally planned to visit Norman to check out the Sooners, but opted for a two-day visit to Oxford to check out the Rebels and head coach Lane Kiffin.
Jackson plans to trim his suitors and release a top group, but he’s still contemplating whether he moves forward and his commitment this month. “I want to commit before the season but I don’t know if I will.”
Jones began preseason workouts on Monday.
Maryland offered Jackson following a strong showing at the Elite 11 in front of veteran quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. Jackson finished fifth in the Pro Day competition while winning the Rail Shot Challenge. Jackson is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, sitting as the 20th-best quarterback in the country. Related Links
