St. Frances (MD) four-star QB Mike Van Buren has set his commitment date.
Van Buren will announce his commitment on July 8, he announced on Friday evening. He also announced a top eight with Cincinnati, Maryland, Miami, Oklahoma , Oregon, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin in the mix.
The 5-foot-11 quarterback has long been a top target for Maryland as Van Buren made his way to campus for three games last fall. He’s also made it to Maryland this spring where he got a chance to sit down with new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis as head coach Mike Locksley shoots to get his local quarterback in the fold.
“He told me I need to be down there every chance that I get, bring my family down there all the time and get to know the program. Just get this thing rolling, he pretty much tells me I’m his guy,” Van Buren told IBG. “He loves ballers staying at home, so that’s pretty much his main message to me. Why leave? Why leave when you can play ball in your backyard?”
Van Buren is expected to return to Oregon for their spring game while he’s set an official visit to Penn State for the weekend of June 16. Oklahoma, meanwhile, has also drawn buzz in Van Buren’s recruitment.
Van Buren is rated a four-star prospect by On3 and a 90 overall, sitting as the 14th-best quarterback in the country.Related Links
