Wayne (OH) four-star OT Aamil Wagner had a busy month of June as he basked in official visits to Ohio State, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Maryland, and Penn State. That will be it for summer visits as Wagner prepares for preseason practice to begin this Thursday.
“Almost every school that I visited in June has reached out to me about doing something for a recruiting cookout or BBQ but me and my parents decided we’ve seen what we’ve needed to see,” Wagner told Inside the Black and Gold. “The next time I step on a college campus, it will probably be for a game.”
Wagner is still in the process of cementing his fall schedule but is eyeing a pair of games he wants to get to. The 6-foot-6, 265-pound tackle said he’s looking to head to Penn State’s white out game when the Auburn Tigers come to town on September 18, followed by a trip to Notre Dame when the Irish host Cincinnati on October 2. Other than that, Wagner will work with his parents to iron out dates to get to all the schools still in his top group.
Maryland worked hard and smart to fight their way into the mix for the four-star prospect, making a June 22 official visit to College Park a reality thanks to off-field assistant Henry Frazier. With offensive tackle the undoubted top positional need for Maryland this cycle, Wagner remains the top target on the tackle board as the staff has kept in touch in the weeks since the visit.
“It’s been going good. Still been talking with coach Braswell frequently and then coach Locksley and I have stayed in touch, we just talked maybe a week or two ago.”
Once he takes in additional games this fall, Wagner is still planning to make his silent commitment this fall and announce his pledge during the All-American game in January. “That’s the plan, probably make a decision sometime in the fall then announce it at the All-American game. Things could change but that’s still what I’m gunning for.”
Wagner is rated a four-star prospect and a 94 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the 74th-best prospect nationally and the eighth-best tackle in the country.
