Four-star point guard set to return to Maryland basketball for official visit

With the staff active on the recruiting trail through the live periods in June, Maryland men's basketball is set to welcome a longtime top target to campus for an official visit beginning Monday.

Four-star point guard O'Neal Delancy is set to arrive in College Park for an official visit beginning Monday, June 29. Maryland offered Delancy over one year ago with assistant TJ Ryan, who serves as the program's Director of Basketball Strategy & Analytics, spearheading consistent efforts alongside head coach Buzz Williams.

After working to finalize an unofficial visit during the season, Delancy visited for the Rutgers game back on March 1 as the upcoming visit marks Delancy's second trip to College Park where they've previously pointed to the need in the backcourt in 2027-28 with the rotation wide open.

“Coach Buzz has definitely let me know, talked about my grit, my determination, the type of person I am so it’s been good, letting me know how much they want me. I definitely appreciate the interest and stuff they do to show they want me.”

This marks the latest visit in a busy month of recruiting for Delancy after previously visiting Houston, Florida, Florida State and Ohio State.

Delancy also has a chance to become Maryland's second commitment out of Montverde Academy over the last four recruiting cycles after former five-star and current Pelicans forward Derik Queen spurned blue bloods to play his freshman season in College Park.

“[Derik Queen] went up there and balled out, made a name for himself and became a first round pick so that was really cool to see them develop a player that came out of the same program as me,” Delancy said.

Delancy was previously named a top performer by On3's Jamie Show at the NBPA Top 100 camp earlier in June.

“ONeal Delancy has played with a lot of confidence at the NBPA Top 100 Camp. The 6-foot-3 guard has shot the ball at a quality clip, but he has also moved the ball well. Delancy is a connecting guard. Someone able to play off of an alpha primary and fill in the gaps. He pulls gravity as a shooter and guards the ball defensively. There is some quality intrigue there as a high-caliber piece. Thursday morning, Delancy looked comfortable as a go-to option in that game. He scored it at each level and was able to consistently get to clean looks. He finished the game with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists while going 3-6 shooting from three.”
