Head coach Buzz Williams and Maryland basketball have several point guard targets in the mix with already a handful having set plans to officially visit College Park this fall. That includes Archbishop Carroll (DC) four-star point guard Ant Brown, who included Maryland in his top ten on Friday afternoon.
Brown, a 6-foot-1 point guard, released a final group including Maryland, Memphis, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Texas Tech, UCF, Vanderbilt, VCU and Villanova.
The local guard became a familiar face in College Park during the 2024-25 season where he built a strong rapport with the previous staff, making the Wildcats an immediate contender after picking efforts back up following the coaching change. But first-year head coach Buzz Williams didn’t waste much time building the relationship with Brown with assistant Lyle Wolf chipping in.
“He basically told me I was one of the best point guards, maybe the best point guard in the area. My ability to pass and score, get others the ball and he gave me credit on the defensive end. He loved my vision, my hunger, my decision-making with the basketball. He couldn’t be at my hometown college without offering one of the best players in the area,” he previously told IBG.
Brown had previously set his official visit to Maryland beginning Oct. 4, the same weekend that the football team hosts Washington for Family Weekend. That is one of several set official visits through the fall with Brown also set to visit UCF on Sept. 12, Vanderbilt on Sept. 19, Villanova on Sept. 26, Texas Tech on Oct. 10, Oklahoma State on Oct. 17 and Mississippi State on Nov. 7.
After being voted as the DC Player of the Year by the DC Basketball Coaches Association following a junior season where he averaged over 24 points and six assists, Brown was named a second-team selection at the Nike EYBL in Kansas City after averaging 19.5 PPG, 5.0 RPG and 2.8 APG where he was named a standout by ZagsBlog.
