Four-star Iverson Howard shifts to recruiter during Maryland official visit

Fresh off his commitment to Maryland, Quince Orchard (MD) four-star running back Iverson Howard put his recruiting hat on during the Terps’ biggest recruiting weekend of the 2025 cycle to-date. “That’s definitely home,” Howard told IBG. “The environment was great, all the recruits were great, all the coaches were great. It was a great time.” Though the only public commit heading into the weekend, Howard was among the long list of regional priority recruits with Spalding (MD) quarterback Malik Washington, Salem (VA) IOL Jaylen Gilchrist and TE Jeff Exinor among the long list of targets on campus through the weekend. After declaring the incoming ’25 class will be the ‘best UMD class ever’ on day two of his visit, Howard worked to extend that comfort feel to the other visitors. “Being that it’s Maryland, most of the guys that are already there, I grew up around so it wasn’t nothing different. It’s like playing with my teammates again. I’ve definitely got a crew coming with me.” The 5-foot-10, 198-pound running back went public with his pledge on Tuesday with Michigan and Florida State among the suitors in his top group through the spring into June as assistant James Thomas spearheaded the Terps’ efforts. “Being around the coaches, it was a great time. It feels like more family than player-coach relationship, just a family up there,” Howard said about his relationship with Thomas. “Plus I definitely want my family to come to the game. And I feel like coach Locks, he’s from the same situation as me so he knows where I’m coming from and how I am as a player. I know he’s going to develop me on and off the field.” Maryland already has one running back in the fold in DeMatha (MD) three-star Bud Coombs, but this weekend’s official visit gave Howard a chance to see how he fits into the Terps’ plans next season. To no surprise, the four-star will get a chance to showcase the same versatility he’s shown as a Cougar. “I’m going to work special teams, kick return and I know I’ll get into the rotation.” Iverson Howard is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, checking out as the ninth-best prospect in Maryland.
