Four-Star Forward Raves About Campus, Talks Practice Intensity During Visit

With the school year in full swing, Maryland basketball has leveraged weekends to host prospects and have them watch practice to get a closer feel for how the new-look Terps differ under the Willard regime. While 2024 four-star forward Derik Queen visited this past weekend for his official visit, North Hills (PA) four-star forward Royce Parham made the trip into College Park the weekend before that for his first visit to Maryland since picking up an offer.

“It was a really good practice and great energy. Good coaching, too,” he told Inside the Black and Gold. “We saw the practice, we walked around the campus, the dorms then we went to the main area where all the food is.” Ahead of practice, Parham got a chance to meet with the staff more. “Before practice, we talked with the head coach, coach Willard. He’s a really good coach, I really like him. I like how he runs his stuff. And I talked with coach Skinn, too. We got a chance to know each other on a personal level then outside of basketball a little.” https://twitter.com/royceparham/status/1581371893268946946?s=46&t=EQhfHqs1q_wPMZpCL4euAA

With mom and dad by his side, Parham added he’d like to see more of campus on his next visit to Maryland but was impressed with what the Terps offer. “It’s a great school, great program, it’s a great campus, great dorms, great everything. It’s a really good place to be.”

This past weekend, Parham made his second trip to Penn State where he was able to attend the White Out win over Minnesota. “It was really good. I talked a lot with all the coaches on campus, stuff like that.”

Parham’s next round of visits isn’t far away. “I’m going to Notre Dame in two weeks and Xavier on new year’s.” Notre Dame was one of three schools mentioned as more consistent for Parham, joining Marquette and Penn State, but he’s keeping the door open in his recruitment. With Parham still in the exploration mode of his recruitment, he has a rough timeframe for when he hopes to make his decision.

“Probably after Peach Jam.”
