The end of the July dead period has allowed more targets across the 2025 and 2026 classes to make their way back to Maryland, and Wednesday was another big day with recruits making their way into Jones-Hill House. A group of roughly ten Cadets made their way to Maryland on Wednesday afternoon for a tour and 2025 four-star Tariq Hayer was among those on campus.
The 5-foot-11 cornerback admitted he had seen much of what was shown on Wednesday’s tour before reconnecting with his lead recruiter. “It was just a quick tour around the indoor facility, like checking out the locker rooms and the pool, player lounge,” Hayer told IBG. “I talked to BWill for a little bit. It wasn’t anything crazy because he talk on the phone all the time so today, we just got a chance to really see each other.”
Maryland is among the schools who have prioritized Hayer early on as they look to stockpile talent from St. John’s after signing receiver Sean Williams last cycle and a trio of stars during the 2021 cycle. The common denominator? Brian Williams, who’s helped keep the Terps in the mix and is leading the charge on Hayer.
“He just sees how things go on in life, checking up on me to make sure I’m good. It’s a good relationship between us,” Hayer said of Williams. “Maryland just treats people from the DMV differently.”
Hayer wasn’t able to make his way to College Park for a game last fall with the Cadets playing the bulk of their games on Saturdays as the four-star hopes to get out to see more fall atmospheres prior to trimming. Next up for Hayer is a visit to Penn State on Saturday where the Nittany Lions have been a steady contender.
“They were really the first ones to show me love. Excited to get back up there.”
Hayer is rated a four-star prospect and a 91 overall by On3, sitting as the second-best player in DC and 113th-best in the country.Related Links
